A New Baby Season Filled With Hope and Challenges at Wildlife Paws

Flore & Zoé

Baby season has begun, bringing a new wave of orphaned wildlife into the center. Newborn vervets, baby servals, duikers, and other rescued animals now require intensive daily care as the team works nonstop to help them recover.

Baby Season Has Officially Begun

Spring has arrived, and with it the first wave of wildlife babies at the center, many of them victims of human–animal conflict. Wildlife crime, hunting, and the illegal pet trade remain the main causes behind the rising number of orphans we must rescue each year. Over the past few weeks alone, we have taken in three baby vervet monkeys and one baby baboon who lost their mothers, three baby servals, a baby water mongoose, a hedgehog injured by a dog, two duikers, a tree squirrel, a lesser bushbaby confiscated from the pet trade, and several leopard tortoises.

Rescue Work in Full Motion

Our days are filled with the demanding work required to care for all these young animals, from bottle-feeding the smallest ones to maintaining enclosures and providing treatment at the clinic. Among them, orphan vervet N°3 has been our most fragile case so far. Arriving at just one day old, still with her umbilical cord attached and suffering from seizures, she required extremely intensive care. She is finally improving, but still needs close monitoring and extra support to ensure she grows strong enough to join the other babies. Thankfully, the arrival of new volunteers has been a tremendous help in keeping everything organized and running smoothly.

How You Can Support Our Mission

Our funding pages remain open for anyone wishing to support the many expenses involved in this life-saving work. Milk formula, seeds, fruits, vegetables, enrichment materials, and enclosure improvements are especially needed during baby season. We truly cannot do this without your help, and every contribution makes a direct difference. We’ll continue sharing updates, photos, and videos on our social media channels and in our newsletter. Thank you for following us and thank you for your invaluable support.
